On our way to the train station for our return to Los Angeles, we decided to spend a few hours at the Pima Air and Space Museum, which is south of Tucson.
It took us 2 hours to get there, so we arrived around noon. We had our lunch in the car before starting our tour.
Once again, a word to the wise, the admission is not cheap, but it is worth the time, if you have a deep love of planes.
They just obtained NASA’s SOFIA (Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy) and it is currently in building 6 getting serviced, before being put out for the public to see.
She flew her missions out of Plant 42 in Palmdale, California, so I was aware of the plane, and am sorry to hear it will no longer fly missions.
Most of the aircraft that Pima has, can be seen at other air museums. The good weather that Tucson has, means that they can have many of the planes outside, and they need to build less hangers to show them off.
There is also a tram that will take you around the field of planes, if you don’t want to walk it.
All in all a good place to visit though I wish we had time to visit the NIKE Missle site, too. It is not that far away, but we had a 5PM deadline for the car rental return. Maybe next time.
FYI, masking is optional, though we masked through parts of it.
